Don & Joyce Sobering - Sobering Auto Electric Ltd.
Sobering Auto Electric Ltd. is a family owned business that has been in operation since 1948. In 2002 Don and Joyce founded the Motor Vehicle Industry of Manitoba Scholarship Fund as a lasting legacy to assist future technicians with their apprenticeship training.
Manitoba Public Insurance
Manitoba Public Insurance is committed to working collaboratively with the automobile collision repair industry in Manitoba to address changes in the design, construction, technology and repair-ability of motor vehicles. Doing so helps to support the long term sustainability of the collision repair industry while ensuring that when vehicles are damaged in motor vehicle collisions in Manitoba, they will be repaired back to manufacturer specifications.
Adolphus “MAC” McDonald Memorial Fund
This memorial scholarship was established to honour Mac’s life-long commitment to training and the automotive repair sector. Mac lost his courageous battle to cancer in 2005 and the automotive industry decided a scholarship in his name would be the most fitting tribute to this remarkable man.

The Manitoba Used Car Dealers Association is dedicated to the enhancement and improvement of the automobile industry in Manitoba for the benefit of the Province’s consumers through identifying public agenda issues affecting the industry and contributing to the decision-making process.

Don and Joyce Sobering Family Fund
In 2012, the Board of Directors felt they wanted to honour Don and Joyce Sobering by having scholarships presented annually in their name. This is in recognition of the industry’s appreciation of their commitment to the industry and the promotion of this scholarship program. This fund continues to grow in order to assist more applicants on an annual basis.
The Joe and Geraldine Rewucki Memorial Fund
The Rewucki family has been involved in the motor vehicle industry since 1946 spanning over four generations. The memorial fund is the family’s ongoing commitment to the industry and their belief in ongoing training, to assist tomorrow’s technicians today.
Motor Vehicle Industry of Manitoba Inc. Fund
The number of applications we receive on an annual basis has increased substantially. In 2022, the Board of the MVIM decided that a portion of the funds raised at their annual scholarship event would be used to award additional scholarships to assist a greater number of worthy applicants.
Susan J. Scott Memorial Fund
To her friends and family, Susan Scott demonstrated her love of community through purposeful philanthropy. She had an innate ability to envision equitable possibilities, and as an entrepreneur, she was confident taking risks in her giving, saw opportunities not barriers, and believed wholeheartedly that investing in people is always worthwhile. Established by friends in 2023, this scholarship will ensure that her legacy will continue through support for the post-secondary technicians of tomorrow.
Bob and Norma Struth Memorial Scholarship
Bob and Norma Struth delivered more than 50 years of quality automotive service to the Killarney and Ninette communities. They also gave back countless hours of volunteer effort and service to their communities. In recognition, the family established in perpetuity, this scholarship fund for tomorrow’s automotive technicians.
